Meade Kansas October 10 United Press report says a speeding Rock Island Imperial passenger train derailed after a washed out roadbed near Fowler killing at least four and injuring about 75. The Imperial from Los Angeles to Chicago carried roughly 130 passengers.
Red Cross in Wichita releases the first list of casualties from the Rock Island train wreck near Meade Kansas. Names include Joseph Klose Pratt Edna Batterman Otis California Mrs Ida Maliszewski East St. Louis and others reported in critical condition at Epworth Hospital Liberal Kansas with multiple addresses across the United States.
Four members of a suburban Fort Worth family were found shot to death in their Oak View addition home. The victims include Elizabeth Ann Finch Penelope Finch Richard Allan Finch and Edith Walker the children's maternal grandmother. The husband American Airlines pilot Richard Gordon Finch was in Ann Arbor visiting relatives and would return. An inquest will be held after his arrival as homicide investigators note the house likely had not been entered since Saturday.
Columbus Day, a legal holiday in Arizona, will be observed Wednesday, the 457th anniversary of the discovery of America by Columbus. State, county, and city offices and banks will close.
