U S hints success with H bomb tests
Washington May 25 1950 The United States hinted it had carried out tests related to hydrogen bombs at the Eniwetok proving grounds in the mid Pacific. A joint statement said the test program contributed to thermonuclear weapons research and signaled progress toward developing a hydrogen bomb though no details on size or detonation were released. Uncertainty remained about the triggering mechanism while speculation centered on a small hydrogen core wrapped around a regular A-Bomb to provide the necessary heat.
