Tokyo May 26 AP Allied tank infantry columns surged along the 125 mile battlefront in Red Korea in pursuit of retreating Communists. The offensive, ordered Friday by Lt. Gen. James A. Van Fleet, aims to quicken the march to victory as forces step up hourly.
Gen. J Lawton Collins, army chief of staff, testified before Senate committees that Gen. Douglas MacArthur violated a policy by sending American troops near the Manchurian border in Korea without proper consultation. He stressed it was a policy not an order, underscoring concerns the move could draw China into the war.

Almost 200 draft-age Valley college students sat a three hour exam to decide future semesters or military service. At Arizona State College Tempe 80 took it while Phoenix college hosted about 100. six Arizona cities hosted sites. The test screens for college work absorption with 150 items. Six further test dates are set for students already registered with draft boards. A bold escape attempt by three prisoners from the Arizona State Prison Annex near Florence ended with one death and two wounded. Buster McCall, 20, died from shotgun wounds. In Cortaro near Tucson, 51-year-old Jesus Martinez shot his 19-year-old son Ramon Martinez after a six month family dispute. Deputies said the father told officers he shot him for his own good. Ramon died at the scene. Jesus is jailed awaiting charges.
