Tax bill gaps and proposed rate hikes noted

Snyder says the house bill mirrors treasury ideas on higher taxes but stops short of the proposed rate increases. He cites potential revenue from liquor tobacco and consumer durable goods and supports raising the capital gains tax to 37 percent. Even with boosts to meet 10 billion dollars in annual revenue, only 4.5 billion will hit in fiscal 1952 due to collection delays. The administration projects a five and a half billion dollar deficit next year, though senate tax writers resist the house extent of hikes.
