President Truman directed the Atomic Energy Commission to press ahead with all forms of atomic weapons including the hydrogen or superbomb. He said the effort will continue until an international control plan for atomic energy is achieved and tied to the nation’s peace and security objectives.
A bill to curb unlicensed club liquor licenses in Arizona would shutter more than 200 such establishments, with about 60 in the Phoenix area. In Evanston Illinois a 13 year old girl Nancy Penfield daughter of former mayor Henry D Penfield was shot in the neck during a singing class at Skokie School on the second floor of the building in Winnetka police sought a 13 year old male classmate who vanished and may be armed with a .22 caliber pistol the girl was in serious condition at Evanston Hospital and the motive remained unclear.
