Sammy the cat descended from a 50 foot palm tree near 1017 North Second Street after 20 days aloft. Mrs. Hilton Pryor said Sammy remains wary though safe on ground and hopes to bring him inside before rain and work. He previously faced a chase by a bully tomcat and stayed near the same palm cluster.
A warm rainstorm drenched Central Arizona boosting soil moisture and promising a banner desert feed year. Reports from Phoenix totals ranged with up to 1.14 inches in some areas and light rains extended statewide. Wool growers and cattle associations noted improved greens on hillsides and pastures, with experts forecasting enhanced grasses if future showers continue.

Government lawyers sought a recess to call witnesses from ongoing contract talks between operators and union reps that began at 11 am EST. David Cole of President Truman's Coal Fact-Finding Board said talks were recessed indefinitely with both sides free to be recalled on one hour notice. Union attorney Welly Hopkins waived jury trial and moved to dismiss, a motion denied by Judge Reech.
In Oklahoma City a leopard that escaped from its zoo enclosure sparked a massive search led by over 100 people including marine reserves and hunters. Despite dogs trained to trail mountain lions and a Fort Sill helicopter, the big cat remains missing with leopard hairs found near the mate’s cage and no sign of the animal after two days of frantic searching.

Chandler. Willy Berry 19 of Mesa sped along Williams Field Road at 1:30 am. His car hit a soft shoulder, crossed the pavement, jumped a canal, and overturned twice. Berry crawled out, moved back in to shut the car off. He escaped injury but was charged with reckless driving.

Arizona lawmakers opened the second week of a special session with a proposed bill by Senator Sam J. Head to appropriate 750000 dollars for the Arizona Tax Commission. The Arizona Corporation Commission decided to appeal to the Arizona Supreme Court a judgment requiring the commission to review MST&T’s rate increase for a third time. Commissioners Wright and Simms urged the high court to decide the entire issue including the legality of interim rates and who sets them as Judge Windes had called MST&T’s 1 percent return a potential confiscation.
A 43 year old cement contractor was captured inside Trader's Furniture Company at 1414 East Van Buren Street at 3 30 am today by police for burglary investigation. The suspect identified himself and was taken into custody.
H. Ray West of 1936 East Roosevelt Street was found beneath a Hollywood bed on a mezzanine during a burglary probe at a rear alley store. Police officers pursued him through a broken gate and open window, seizing burglary tools and charging West in East Phoenix Precinct Court.
