Ice laden C-82 lands safely after six bail out
A C-82 Flying Boxcar iced up at 18,000 feet over Love Lock and gyrated violently forcing six of ten occupants to parachute to safety. Four minor injuries were reported among those who landed on the Pyramid Lake Reservation hills while two others suffered broken legs and arms. The aircraft, which had departed Denver, fought icing as it climbed from 12,000 to 18,000 feet before the crew directed parachute deployment. The rescue party later hauled the injured to an awaiting ambulance along the highway. Continuous ice accumulation caused the emergency.

Girl Scout Credits Training With Saving Life In Wilderness
Ruth Aberle a 16 year old Kelso high school sophomore said her Girl Scout training saved her life after 96 hours lost in the wilderness. She found shelter in a cabin eight miles north of Kelso as up to 1,000 men searched a 10,000 acre area. She was exhausted but coherent, fed intravenously at Cowlitz County General Hospital, and credited her scouts training with keeping faith and staying warm.

Washington AP reports the Marine Corps offers a $360 re enlistment bonus for six year terms and a $160 bonus for four year re enlistments. Six year re enlistments began December 13 and after January 1 the service will stop accepting two or three year re enlistments.

Baby Dies Unnoticed On Lap Of Mother
A 3-month-old boy died on his mother's lap while traveling toward Phoenix in a truck driven by his father Harold Braham of Ashton Idaho. Deputies investigated after the baby's body was taken to Mortuary in Wickenburg. Braham had previously lost his wife and another child in a prior auto truck accident.

Former Williams Air Force head injured in crash
Col Robert L Scott former commanding officer of Williams Air Force Base Chandler Arizona is hospitalized after a collision on the Macon Columbus highway. He was treated at City Hospital for possible rib fractures a leg injury and severe neck head and face lacerations. He was being moved to Fort Benning Hospital where officials said the injuries were not considered serious though full extent was unclear. Scott was en route to Macon before heading to Germany to take command of a new jet fighter unit.

Six Airmen Die as B-29 Crashes Near Roswell Base
