Mexico City Aug 27 AP reports hurricane rains drowning nine people in the El Mante area along the Pan American Highway. Tampico flooded after the hurricane, 3,000 farmers sheltered in a sugar mill, and the main tourist route reopened with no tourist casualties reported. The prior week's toll rose to 210 with Jamaica 156 dead and dam bursts in Mexico causing 42 deaths.

Dr. Glenn C. Anderson 43 acting superintendent of Arizona State Hospital and Mrs. Myrtle Holt 40 were killed when a car driven by Holt left the road and plunged into a canyon in South Mountain Park. Elmer Robert Latham 68 died in a pedestrian truck accident at 5421 East Van Buren. Three other hospital employees were injured. Anderson’s wife Mary 39 and psychaitrist Paul L. Barnes 43 and his wife Mary 43 were hospitalized. The group had attended an outing at Lookout Point before the crash.
