Gulf Tanker Collision Believed To Lose All Hands
Two tankers collided in the Gulf of Mexico about 200 miles south of Morgan City Louisiana. The Esso Suez was ablaze with a number of crew burned and the first mate dead. The Gator was thought lost with all hands. Coast Guard planes and vessels rushed to the scene as details emerged. The Esso Suez, a 26500 ton super tanker launched in 1949, normally carried about 48 men and could hold 9000000 gallons of oil.

Rain renewed after violent fall yesterday
Rain began again in Phoenix at 9 45 a m after storms pelted Phoenix Tucson and Douglas with hail yesterday. Douglas led rainfall outside Phoenix with 1 10 inches in the past 24 hours. Roosevelt Dam measured .86 and Payson .62 inches as hail caused minor damage mostly to flowers and gardens. A Phoenix employee was knocked unconscious by lightning while work continued.
