A Dallas News account reports a real tornado near the Caleb Schmidt homestead southwest of Dalhex. Five horses were carried through the air for about 160 yards at roughly a mile per minute. one horse died from injuries, four escaped. Schmidt was unconscious briefly but recovered within 24 hours. The boy was lifted as he tended the pasture when the twister struck.
There is debate over whether South Dakota will elect two or three congressmen at the next election. The law may entitle the state to three in 1913 but unclear if three sit in 1918 or only after that date. Sioux City Journal argues two next year then three. others disagree. Several aspirants may run in districts or state wide, awaiting clarity. Earle Butte in Dewey county notes a local suffrage advocate among its women.
