Coal firms in Schuylkill region report total work stoppage, with layoffs of railroad coal workers and rising coal shortages in Reading.
A Panhandle Railroad naphtha car explosion near Sheraden Pittsburg causes many deaths and injuries. Fire, blocked tracks, and severed telegraph lines hinder communications as hospitals crowd with burn victims. Listed dead include HARRY F.
