Leaders Favor the Petty Island Land Purchase
Residents of the 25th and 18th wards oppose a proposed $480,000 purchase of 150 acres of malarial swamp on Petty's Island in the Delaware River for a municipal hospital and pest house. A Citizens Association meeting will push resolutions to block the acquisition, citing health risks to nearby communities. Despite opposition, officials appear set to move forward, with discussions of other sites and a recent NJ bill allowing foreign corporations to hold property in the state cited as context.
