Hindoo Refusal of Medical Aid Slows India Plague Response
Swedish consul F W Bickel in Bombay says fear of hospitals and modern medicine cuts India’s disease response. He notes Bombay’s population decline by 40 000 in ten years versus a 15 percent national growth, and calls India still steeped in ancient traditions with limited progress. He has lived in India for seventeen years and argues a single interview cannot capture the scale of the issue.
