Dr M N Wimberly a chiropractor and Army veteran opens offices at 901 West Pine St Hattiesburg with his wife and two children Mike and Patsy. He served with the 36th Division 1940 to 1945 and graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic Davenport Iowa. He has practiced in Oakdale and Alexandria La. and held leadership roles in the Louisiana Chiropractic Association and local civic groups.

Mississippi Southern football hopefuls report September 1 for two a day practices under Head Coach Thad Pie Vann now in his eighth season. About 75 candidates expected with 40 returning players and 45 newcomers. Pre season plan includes 7am workouts, lectures, and equipment checks starting August 30. Returning lettermen include 16. linemen Don Owens and P W Underwood. guards Dave Fitzgerald and Al Tre.
Tra B Hall announces the opening of The Jewelry Shop in Petal on Saturday September 1 next to Nelson's Shoe Store in the Mathis Building at 1108 Main Street. The air conditioned store offers Elgin Bulova diamonds and watches with repair facilities and a stocked line of jewelry and Sun beam appliances. Mr Hall a native of Alabama with ten years in retail jewelry says the business aims to support Petal's growth and invites the public to visit.
Kansas school children show high rate of eye defects in a statewide program begun by the Kansas Optometric Association in 1940. Nearly 400000 students had a real eye test using 12 diagnostic cards, the Snellen chart, and a personal optometrist exam to verify findings and screen for disease. in Yates Center, more than 300 of 1200 children tested had undiagnosed defects and many required treatment.
