Where Was Washington Wedded and Why It Matters
The Washington wedding dating from January 1759 remains debated among biographers. Some place the ceremony at St Peter's Church New Kent County, others say at the bride's home the White House, or a transfer to Willamsburg or Mount Vernon. Local authorities doubt the church record, while witnesses cite bridal cavalcade and travel between church and home as evidence.
