Regatta at Naramata Draws Big Crowds and Notables

The Naramata regatta drew large crowds on Friday the 17th with arrivals by Str Aberdeen and ferries from Summerland and Penticton. Officials including Lieut. Gov. Bulyea Premier McBride and M P P Price Ellison spoke before races such as the Stark Cup, double sculls, canoe and motor races, ending with a popular performance of All a Mistake by the Naramata Stock Co.

Penticton and Dominion Day Sports Plans

As Dominion Day nears the organizing committee finalizes a full day of aquatic events in the morning including a war canoe race motor launch and sailing races. Afternoon features track horse races and athletic events with increased prizes on a permanent course. A ten mile Marathon draws major interest with competitors expected from afar. Kelowna City Band returns and the finance committee notes about $300 collected toward a $600 budget for prizes and band. Citizens are urged to donate. Flags should fly to advertise Penticton's annual sports day.

Irrigation Committee Meets on Domestic Water Plans

The irrigation purchase committee held its first meeting Monday evening with part of the full body absent. No funds were available to test waters from proposed sources, so a later date was set. The panel may advise the Council on appointing an engineer and pursuing feasible domestic water schemes while remaining advisory. Lakeshore Telephone Co. plans extensive local system additions.

Masked Hold Up Westbound Express Near Ducks

A six to eight man band of masked robbers halted the C P R express No 97 east of Ducks before midnight. They demanded the engineer stop at a signal, forced the fireman to breach the express cars, and searched three cars but found nothing of value. They fled toward the lake, aided by armed posse and trackers, leaving no loot beyond the sense they sought money tied to a bank transfer.
