On Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Vancouver Miss Hattie Lonsdale Burritt married William James Clement editor of the Press in a ceremony conducted by Rev Hetherington. The Press staff extend congratulations and best wishes for their life together.
A sequence of shocks Monday rattled Vancouver Victoria Nanaimo Tacoma Bellingham Everett with about 20 seconds of shaking. No extensive damage reported though dishes toppled and sidewalks cracked. A tidal wave hint and a damaged Seattle Sitka cable raise Alaska and northern district concerns.
Report notes teams moving ice from water onto sawdust piles during a cold spell. The ice is described as in excellent condition with blocks measuring 16 to 18 inches thick in some cases.
Word from the Great Northern railway states steel has been ordered for the V. V. and KE division extension from Keremeos to Princeton including main line and sidings. Delivery is expected early spring to have the Similkameen branch ready for operation next summer.
Miss Simpson of Ottawa visits Mrs Brad shiw while J Knowles travels from Victoria to Olalla. Regular church services are announced, including Presbyterian, Baptist and Methodist schedules. A municipal election note covers five school trustees nominations and local political remarks. A. H. Wade and L. C. Barnes are named as candidates. Duncan Ross relocates coastward. A quotation from Senator Davis urges support for local papers as community investments.
The Lit members drew a large Thursday audience as they debated whether the franchise should be extended to women. The affirmative was led by Messis and others, while Gahan Evans and Miller spoke for the negative, with Rev Hibbert delivering the critics’ report. The judges favored the negative. next week’s topic will be professional careers versus business careers.
About sixteen local youths secured a rig from Welby and drove around town and outskirts seeking sleigh fun. Snow was thin and travel was hard, so they returned to the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Alcock to enjoy the rest of the evening.
The two states move to enact the Lemieux Act with few changes from the Canadian law. A permanent conciliation board replaces the temporary one, seen as potentially improving administration in a large nation. Alberta argues critics rush to judgment, praising the act as the best labor legislation Canada has passed and a step forward from prior conditions.

Electors of Penticton are summoned to the Court House January 18 at 12 noon to elect five School Trustees for the Municipal School District. Nominations must be written and signed by proposer and seconder, delivered to the Returning Officer by 2 pm on nomination day. Poll if needed opens January 25 at the Court House. Notice of an application to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia for an act to incorporate The Kettle River Valley Railway Company. The route runs from Midway to Penticton and Penticton to Nicola totaling about 270 miles, with telegraph lines, water powers, and authority to lease other lines. The Kettle River Valley Railway Co will apply to Parliament at the next session for an Act authorizing construction of a railway from near Penticton on Okanagan Lake to near Nicola along the Nicola Kamloops and Similkameen Coal & Railway line in British Columbia.
