Mrs Henry Iford hosted the Fortnightly Club ladies Wednesday afternoon with refreshments and an enjoyable afternoon. Miss Margaret Scott of Indianapolis and Miss Essie Hallowell were dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Swain on Sunday.
Mrs. Louisa Taylor came home Sunday after attending the Universalist convention in Peru last week. She was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dixon and Mrs. Mary Fort on the return trip.
Community events mark Vocational Education Week in Pendleton with a Tuesday banquet at H S Gym headlined by Hon E I Franks of Washington D C Local speakers include Floyd Miner W F Morris L V May R F Thomas and F C Burdette Tickets available before noon Monday at the High School or the banks The week features demonstrations home economics style show alumni programs and club fair with entertainment in the High School Auditorium
Washington DC speaker Hon E. J. Frank will headline a community banquet at the high school gym on Tuesday October 16 at 7:45 p.m. Local businessmen will give short speeches and an orchestra will be secured. Home Economics Department serves the banquet. Tickets available from department members or by calling the high school. reservations close Monday noon.
Twenty five boys near Pendleton belong to the Certified Seed Potato Club led by A. T. Marvel of Pendleton’s Vocational Agriculture. Each member receives four bushels of certified seed two from Michigan and two from Wisconsin plus spray materials for a three treatment program. They plant on quarter acre plots with a home grown check row. Exhibits are prepared for the Club Round Up with judging Wednesday. prizes include a free trip to the Purdue Potato Show and cash awards for peck yields and best exhibits. The Big Club Fair comes midweek with Dr. Miller of Indiana University headlining a free public entertainment at the high school auditorium.
A 1923 Portland Oregon clipping prints letters from Charles Swain Thomas and Howard J Biddle praising Pendleton Times Centennial issue. Ed Witmer Pendleton Indiana and Edward Witmer Boston are cited as correspondents. The notes highlight community pride and local history, signed by Thomas as Educational Department editor.
Pendletonians learn the Meridian Garage has opened at 216 North Meridian Street opposite the Federal Building. A five story fire proof facility run by Carl Carson, longtime Horace Wood Transfer Co. manager, offers modern services to motorists visiting downtown Indianapolis.
The Saturday Club held its first regular meeting of the year on October 6 at Mrs. B C Reid's home. Executive members served a three course luncheon and tributes to October were given by Mrs. Louise Swain and Miss Rebecca Swain. Miss Scott of Indianapolis spoke on Pendleton and Bear Wallow Hill Brown County. Guests included Miss Scott, Mrs. Mary Hair, and Mrs. W H Lewis.
Mrs J J Rogers returned from Port Chester Pennsylvania where she attended the funeral of Mrs Mary Rogers Burdsall. She also visited her son Harold Rogers and his wife in Washington D C.
Pendleton High School approves a student paper to inform the community of activities and goals. The staff includes Editor-in-Chief David Ireland and others. committees cover agriculture exhibit sections and a reading experiment with Indiana University involvement.
The Busy Bee Club will meet Saturday afternoon at the High School building. Each girl should bring her summer club work for the exhibit next week at the school. A surprise program is planned and all girls should arrive promptly at two o clock. The Vocational Home Economics Club held its regular monthly meeting at Myldred Adams's home.
Tuesday evening plans outline initiation for Vocational Home Economics girls with two or more years of study. Coach Young optimistically notes a rebuilding varsity squad with two returning players. A Boy Scout Troop group forms after an all‑males meeting at the school. Vocational Week in Indiana promises notable programs with speakers from Indiana University and Dr. Franks. The Senior Class buys rings and juniors prepare for basketball. Frances Ireland from South Bend visits.
