Oswald Ryan attorney for J. H. Shuman says Indiana governor unlikely to grant extradition after Shuman paid $240 balance on a mortgaged Oklahoma car. Oklahoma officials had planned to drop the case. Shuman remains jailed awaiting possible release as talks continue.
Ellsworth Tanke burst into The Times office to announce his son Clayton’s message from Indianapolis that a grandson named Thomas was born. He claimed the title of grand dad and had not yet settled after the excitement at press time.
A petition presented to county commissioners by Lawrence V. Maye and Pendleton residents seeks annexation of the Kirk Hallowell property, valued at $20 000, arguing Hallowell benefits from town services yet pays no taxes. Hallowell resists, contending he already enjoys town protection and governance. The case, postponed due to Charles Poin Dexter’s illness, previously drew both former and current Pendleton town council members.
Dr Virgil Moon professor of bacteriology and pathology at Indiana University will address Madison County Medical Society next Tuesday evening on the precipitin test for syphilis. Samuel Pavey, Civil War veteran and Grand Army of the Republic member, died Sunday morning of heart failure at his home on West Street. He was 8? years old and survived by a son in Dayton, two sisters Nannie Pavey and Mrs. William Sears, two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist Episcopal church with G A R in charge, burial at Grovelawn Cemetery.
Postmaster C L Bragdon says 1918 War Sayings Stamps mature January 1 1923 but will be accepted November 15 for exchange into new 4 percent Treasury Certificates. Each 1918 Stamp is worth maturity value up to five dollars when part payment for certificates dated January 1 1923. Officials urge stamp owners to act before Christmas rush.
The Boys Band will hold a market Saturday at Goffs Meat Market to raise funds. They appeal for patronage to help pay a debt some members have left behind and to support those who remain in the band.

Clayton Sells, a longtime Madison County figure and twice Madison County coroner, died at his Anderson home Wednesday morning at 8:30. He led the Republican party and belonged to several fraternal groups. Funeral services will be Sunday at his residence with the Anderson lodge of Elks in charge, burial at Maplewood.
Last Saturday Armistice Day the American flag was hoisted outside the Post Office for the first time in years. Postmaster Bragdon raised it early, ending the long custom of displaying the flag only in the front window. The change drew several moments of attention.

Woodinville Washington timber cruiser Tom Fulda caught a rainbow trout about 23 inches long in Tolt creek that had just swallowed a small chipmunk. It is believed the chipmunk was trying to swim the creek when eaten by the trout.
At Pennsylvania State College summer session six students demonstrated subsisting and even gaining weight on less than 50 cents per person per day. By using garden vegetables they cut costs to about 16 cents per meal.
