Pendleton merchants report Christmas trade reaching its strongest level in years with shelves bare and brisk home spending. Stores showcased stock through The Times boosting results as shoppers favored local merchants. C and T Grocery hosted a Christmas tree event with clerks exchanging gifts and Crosley and Taylor giving each clerk a five dollar bill.

State Highway Commission and the Indiana Reformatory Trustees, backed by Gov. McCray, plan to pave and reroute the Pendleton Pike from McCordsville to Pendleton, bypassing a preferred crossing of the Big Four railroad and avoiding two rail crossings. Residents of Fall Creek township petitioned Congressman Albert Vestal to press for a route change. The plan includes a west side connection near the Reformatory and a link to Main Street in Pendleton, aiming to ease local opposition while toting state and federal cooperation.

Pendleton adds a new fire truck from Buffalo Fire Appliance Corp mounted on a Reo chassis. It features a 1000 foot hose capacity two chemical tanks ladders axes and a three hour Underwriters Test pumped 340 gallons per minute at 125 pounds pressure. The $4800 unit will be kept ready by Lester George who supervises station operations.
