New Express Rates Cut Portland to All Points
Salem Sept 9 The Oregon railroad commission approved an amended tariff for the Pacific Express company lowering rates effective October 1. The changes reduce Portland to mainline points 19.4 percent and to branch lines 20.7 percent with an overall Portland to all points average drop of 20.3 percent. The overhaul covers all merchandise based rates and 200 separate rates, affects stations to the Washington state line and Huntington, but excludes Sumpter Valley and lower Columbia river steamer routes. The commission had found prior rates unreasonable and sought adjustments after hearings with the company officials.
