Captain James Blakely of Browneville Oregon, born November 26 18582, recently drove from Pendleton to Joseph in Wallowa County by automobile. The journey, undertaken with his son William Blakely and others, marked a historic feat for a man of his age, with no ill effects reported after the mountain crossing. He fought in the Rogue River Indian Wars in 1856 and remains active in western travel and family visits.
