A Defense of the Normal Schools in Oregon
A lengthy discussion defending Oregon normal schools against anti normal school sentiment. It reviews Weston’s experience, cites national norms, and compares Oregon with other states in funding and graduates. The piece argues normal schools are integral to public education and critiques calls to abolish them, noting Weston’s lone stand and subsequent reforms. It includes historical references to Benjamin Franklin, lists state normal school counts, and contrasts Oregon budgets with Washington and California.
