Portland October 30 A cablegram reports the British steamer Claeverley sailing September 15 from Portland to Limerick Ireland ran aground on Punta Arenas in the Strait of Magellan and will be a total loss. The wheat laden ship carried 200000 bushels valued at 174000 dollars. No crew casualties are listed but it is presumed the crew escaped.
In Salem on October 10 Governor West warned that any stagnant irrigation company must show it has or can command resources to complete its project and begin construction within a reasonable time or quit the field. He pressed State Engineer Lewis for complete details on the Harper Basin Irrigation Co of Malheur County, a venture started in 1909 with little progress. The board also considered withdrawing lands from entry and reverting them to the public domain after a government inspection found adverse reports on the Harper Basin project.

The Eastern Oregon Medical Society concluded a highly praised meeting at Hot Lake. All 27 registered physicians were eastern Oregon locals, with speakers from the society. Dr T. M.
