Transportation needed for gold mine development in Willow Creek
In 1912 three quartz gold mines Gold Bullion Alaska Free Gold and Gold Quarts operated in Willow Creek Alaska. Each small mill crushed about 7 000 tons of ore yielding around 100 000 dollars in gold. Growth limited by lack of railroads and high transport costs. A wagon road up the Little Susitna opened eastern district access. Plans aim to expand developments and harness hydroelectric power on the Little Susitna. Several new gold bearing quartz discoveries were reported in 1912.

Railroad Seeded to Yukon Valley Alaska
The 1912 estimated value of gold from the Alaska Yukon basin was 8.645 million dollars, down from 9.056 million in 1911 due to reduced output in Fairbanks and Hot Springs. Other Yukon camps held or grew output. Fairbanks remains top placer producer but may lose its lead without mining condition changes. The future hinges on a railway link to water.
