Reports from Mexico City say the presidential vote failed to meet constitutional thresholds, with about 3,000,000 votes cast. leaders allied with Huerta plan to declare the election invalid and keep Huerta as head of government until a new vote can be held. Northern districts saw minimal turnout amid disruptions.
The Supreme Court convened in the local courthouse for its regular fall eastern Oregon session with Chief Justice McHride and Justices Moore Renn Burnett McNary and Rumsey present. Attorneys from many counties attend to argue cases and court business. Four applicants sit for bar admission as examinations proceed. Cases argued included Malzer v Sehhialer from Wallowa and Miller v Miller from Wallowa, Sharpe v Catron from Malheur, and Bergevin Bros. v Mangrove from Umatilla. Several other hearings continued for the term, including Maxwell Land & Irrigation Co. v Hermiston Bank & Trust, and Smith v Me Duffy et al from Grant.

A freight train derailment six miles north of Prairie City on the Sumpter Valley Railway yesterday morning killed Hubert S. Richardson of Baker who jumped from an overturning car and was crushed. William Hall of John Day was injured but remained in the car. A string of valuable race horses, including Discontent bought for 1800, fell from the derailed car and were thrown into a glun ing medley beside the track along with hogs and sheep. Hall suffered a severe flesh wound. Richardson and one horse died.
At Alem Oregon Industrial school for girls a mass poisoning attempt occurred Sunday night. Strychnine was added to tea and coffee served to officials and inmates. many drinks were bitter yet some survived. Names tied to kitchen workers include Mrs Pillie Creswell Stella Morgan Locdla Hill Lula Smith. A Thaw extradition hearing in Concord New Hampshire saw lawyers seek delay.

In Portland Oregon a widow named Mrs Ming Kenter aided by others tried to mail a letter to Germany to obtain proof of her husband s death so she could secure a widow s pension. She was struck by a streetcar and killed instantly according to neighbors.
Washington reports a fall test confirmed fortifications around the Panama Canal were functional. Officials say another maneuver off Panama will be conducted in February to assess defenses and readiness for future tests.
Three persons were instantly killed and 29 seriously injured when a rear end collision occurred at Waterloo station on the Southeastern Railway. A heavy fog prevented trainmen from seeing signals and the express train tele-scoped the second passenger train.

A deadly Milwaukee fire at the Goodyear Rubber plant and adjoining buildings left seven firemen dead and about twenty injured when a collapsing wall trapped them. Three injuries are expected to be fatal. The blaze began in the Goodyear basement at a vulcanizing plant, with losses estimated around half a million dollars. Other affected firms include Western Electric, Zimmerman brothers, Stump and Fielding, and Leo Abraham Cigars.
Two drivers were injured in separate Saturday morning incidents and placed on enforced vacation. B Ashford of Charles J Koch Furniture Center broke a finger and suffered gashes when a wheelie load shifted on a grade near the river and the wagon almost toppled. Alva Sample of East End Grocery escaped serious harm after his wagon overturned during a tight turn at the creamery. he was bruised but uninjured otherwise and sent home on Thompson Street to recover for a few days.
In Marshfield, Mayor C. Jordan of Pastelde reportedly leaped into the bay after worrying over the disappearance of $3,100 from the city recorder’s safe weeks earlier. The body was recovered. no blame was assigned.
