Forest City Arkansas on October 22 a mob seized Charles Young a colored man from the jail and burned him alive a half mile east of town after breaking in with sledge hammers. Mrs Ed Lewis a white woman had been seriously harmed in the mob action. The execution occurred before hundreds of onlookers.

Crane accident kills two men on Valley bridge

In Boston Pennsylvania on October 22 a crane on the Lehigh Valley bridge over the Delaware toppled. Frank Currs and Patrick Jermiah fell into the Morris canal from a height of about 200 feet.

In Hazelton Pa October 22 Markle company posted notices asking miners to apply individually for work tomorrow. Miners refused to return to the old scale and were sent home. In Jeddo Crifton workers declined to sign old-scale back agreements. Panther Creek valley pumpmen and firemen reported for Landsford Summit Hill. Mass meetings parades and onfires ran all night. At Coaldale a militiaman fatally shot a union man during celebrations. Greenwood colliery had only one engineer present. mine owner Markle did not sign arbitration papers.

A public meeting will be held at the Commercial Association rooms in Pendleton at 2 p m on Monday October 27 1902 to perfect plans for a factory for Rigby Clove harvester and other farm implements and to take subscriptions for 25000 dollars of preferred stock with a guaranteed income of 8 percent per annum Citizens of Pendleton and Umatilla County are urged to attend to support manufacturing and local interests. More cattle shipments slated from W and C stock yards

This afternoon three more cattle cars will depart the W and C T stock yards bound for Fyfe, Brohn & Co of Seattle. The cattle were brought here via the Stal & N and transferred to the other line. Tomorrow 17 more cars will travel the same route to the Sound, with 15 by F B Ball and two by West and Furnish.

Molten slag explosion injures workers at Rankin furnace

A ladle of molten slag exploded at the Carrie furnace in Rankin near Pittsburg. Water in the car dropped and caused the blast. Six men were badly burned, two fatally, and eight others burned or seriously injured. All workers affected were men.
