The gun, a .38 caliber Colt automatic, was found hidden in a granary on the Larden farm after an extensive search by Sheriff Minto. Meyers claimed he dumped the weapon and ammunition in the Pudding River, having carried the gun loaded only one day, and authorities view this as an attempted fabrication to strengthen his case.
