A. Chamberlain will serve two years in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to obtaining money by false pretenses. He bought a city fourmth and lot from E. Wade using a $2000 check with no funds, mortgaged the property for 3350, and was later arrested with a ticket to Omaha. Wade recovered the property via transfer back.
Wheat opened at 1.12 and closed near 1.12 percent with most local stocks depleted. May wheat opened and closed around 1.12 percent as corn and oats traded at fractional changes with small lots sold at low prices including Bluestem at 76 cents.

Thomas Paul, one of the oldest pioneers of the Walla Wallan valley, died yesterday evening of senile decay in Walla Walla.
Mrs. Mariel Chastain grand chief of the Rathbone Sisters for Oregon reports progress during her term. She has visited all temples from Heppner to Pendleton and helped institute new ones at Hood River Cascade Locks Independence and Seaside. Total state membership nears 2460 as the wound temple in Seaside prepares for officers and annual events.
A ram’s skull and horn embedded in a white pine tree grown on the Salmon River. The tree, about 20 to 25 years old, was found 40 miles from Summit City Idaho. The horns show the mountain sheep’s mark, indicating the animal lived over a century ago.
John J. McKoin, veteran Indian Service man from Fort Mojave, named superintendent of the Umatilla Indian Agency schools to succeed Thames Wilkins. He will arrive about October 1 and has previously led at the Siletz reservation in Lincoln County, Oregon. The decision disappoints Charles X Robinson, a clerk who sought the top post. Special Agent McNichols remains in charge until McKoin’s arrival and will relocate per agency orders.

Oct 1 The congregation of propaganda today issued a brief appt naming Rev John B. Carroll of Holy Family Mission Montana as bishop of Helena to succeed the late Bishop Arendet.
The 1 year old son of Thome Farr, Granger Texas, has been successfully operated on for appendicitis and is expected to recover. Doctors report the operation was a first for the region and the child is believed to be the youngest ever to undergo this procedure at that time.
The Northern Pacific plans a half mile eastward track shift at Connell to align with the O H & N and move town warehouses and yards. Some side tracks have been sold. most warehouses aim to relocate, but several farmers and storage owners have not followed.
