Labor Congress opens largest federation session on Pacific coast
In San Francisco on November 12 1924 the American Federation of Labor begins its 24th annual convention. President Gompers and John Mitchell lead a high stakes contest for the presidency amid rival industrialist and trade autonomy factions. Major issues include open shop anti injunction eight hour movement and anti labor legislation. Delegates from about one million workers and 400 delegates arrive. William Abraham M P and J Wignall from the British Trades Union Congress attend as honored guests. The convention will also tackle open shop anti-labor strategy and legislative efforts.
