Pendleton shows clutch finish as he wins first in all dash events, with Baker and Mince among close runners. Ontario takes third, La Grands fourth, while Union and City fail to show up for the meet contest. Pendleton’s late surge marks a standout performance by a local high school star.
Baker City won the annual inter-scholastic field meet at Frazier track by 12 points over Pendleton which finished second Ontario third and La Grande fourth. Pendleton surged to the lead early and held it until near the end as Baker City and Pendleton traded the top spots in close events. Gordon of Pendleton scored 15 points leading in sprints while Beers of Baker City totaled 18 in weight events. Oliver Huston presented the trophy to Baker City Captain Jones, with Huston also staging a 100 yard exhibition. Engdahl of Pendleton upset expectations by placing second in the mile ahead of La Grande’s Peare.
In Ballard on May 26, 41 year old Charles Faulk a carpenter, shot himself in the kitchen of his father's house during a struggle with two sisters over a revolver. Authorities report despondency after the death of a child as the motive.
A May 26 blaze in a frame livery stable in Eugene Oregon threatened the downtown business district. Volunteer firefighters confined the damage to the stable and eight or ten rear warehouses, with the Christian Science church nearby spared. Total losses ranged from 99000 to 206000 dollars, per reports.
J D Farrell announces that Northern Pacific Union Pacific and Great Northern will share the Tacoma to Portland mainline and Columbia River bridge. They will double track the line and maintain separate terminals at Tacoma and Seattle for all business.

Lorimer, a popular congressman, built a broad base across party lines and will resign his job to pursue his new role. He owns a west side mansion and a summer home at Fox Lake where he will spend holidays.

Witnesses R A Smith and Charlie Wells support government claim of restricted access, while defense presents counter views, including statements from Peter French's 40-acre tract connections and a potential Scandinavian settlement plan. A juror’s mother’s illness briefly pauses proceedings as deliberations proceed with 11 jurors.
Tacoma May 26. Theodore Nelson, an inmate at the state insane asylum at Stellacoom, sues former employers for 77500 claiming it as the value of his last reason. Nelson, once a lawyer for Massell Lumber, fell through a trap floor on May 1, 1907, injuring his mind, with sister Miss Caroline Nelson filing the suit.
The Pendleton depot project advances as Fisher Petrie of Portland won the bid and will start next week. Preparations include moving the roundhouse, with surveys and staking completed and an inspector due to outline first tasks, signaling rapid progress with no delays expected.
Five new indictments mark a busy grand jury with multiple sentences. Umatilla men P W Cline and J Johnson paid fines of 250 and 600 dollars respectively. Joe Morrison pled guilty and awaits sentencing. Other defendants include J A Crossley Michael Burke David Clark Henry Henderson and Fred Hook. Crossley and Burke received seven years each, Clark five, Hook two years for forging a mayor's name and safe cracking.
Seattle May 26 The Pacific Northwest athletic championships open at the Grand Opera house with a larger entry than ever. Portland sends Omar Dranga a 12 pound boxer facing Pete Moe of Seattle Athletic Club. Seattle counters with coast champion Harry Croft heavyweight. Spokane bets on McFarland in 125 and 135 pound classes. Wrestling limited to six minutes with judges’ decision if no fall. Public admitted.
Washington May 4 11 was officially stated at the White House that Census Director North has resigned and EK Dank Durand deputy commissioner of corporations has succeeded him. The announcement came after a conference between President Taft and Secretary Nagel. Nagel demanded North's resignation as the result of recent orders for the reorganization. Confusion and anxiety surrounded the announcement amid attempts to reassure the public.
King Edward's colt Minoru won the English derby at Epsom Downs before enormous crowds. This marked the King’s third derby victory as the purse of 2540 dollars was awarded.
New rate books received by Pendleton insurance representatives reveal reductions from 10 to 15 percent for rewired business properties and 25 percent for dwellings, 33 1 3 percent for detached homes. Those who did not rewire gain no benefit. the poor risks remain unaffected by the changes.

Seattle May 26 Boatswain Andrew Hamilton of the cruiser Pennsylvania arrived from San Francisco but suffered severe injuries when the port anchor was dropped. The shackle broke and the loose cable struck Hamilton across the legs mangling both limbs below the knees. He was hurled into the water and may be crippled for life if he survives.
Weston Oregon May 26 11 graduates received diplomas at the last commencement for the eastern Oregon State Normal school. Judge Stephen A Lowellipsis Lowell Pendleton delivered the oration with Miss Lillian Holman valedictorian and Claudia Kelley salutatorian. Regent Hofer urged maintaining the schools and possibly a fourth near the Oregonian tower.
William Travers Jerome, renowned New York district attorney, will voluntarily submit to a guiding examination into his office at tonight’s People's Institute gathering at Cooper Union. Questions will be read in writing and Jerome has spent days preparing answers.
