Coal Dump Mob In Cordova Bay Sparks Alaska Friction

In Cordova Alaska on May 6 a mob of about 300 businessmen and citizens dumped hundreds of tons of British Columbia coal into Cordova Bay to protest delayed government action on Alaska coal lands. J H Young of Alaga Steamship defended the protest as aimed at the government, not the company, while urging opening of the coal fields amid mounting unrest.

Carnegie Receives Pan American Medal of Humanity

Montana United Spanish War Veterans will hold sessions over the next three days. A joint parade of all veterans is planned for tomorrow evening. The Woman's Relief Corps of the Grand Army the Ladies Auxiliary of the Spanish War Veterans and the Military Order of the Serpent will also hold business sessions during the encampment.

Bradburn Denied County License Outside Pilot Rock

John Bradburn, wine and liquor dealer, was denied a county license after a full day of consideration by the Umatilla County Court. The court ruled a saloon just outside city limits would invite lawlessness and lack jurisdiction for enforcement, dismissing a petition signed by over 100 Pilot Rock residents. A separate action granted Wild Horse Road its return to the creek bed.
