A message from W F Beckton town marshal at Kimberly Idaho states Tom Purdy formerly of Pendleton did not kill his wife. The wife was not injured and the shot missed. The message was received by East Oregonian last evening and bulletined locally.

Paris May 4 Hubert Latham the famed aviator returned to Paris after a round the world flight in which he flew in virtually every country and announced he would never fly again at least until airplanes are improved and reinforced. He said it is luck he is alive today and he quits because his mother wishes.
Portland May 4 ex governor of Idaho J McConnell now labor inspector is in Portland to two weeks conferring with organized laboring men and government officials The new ruling allows a laborer to sue a contractor for 1000 if he testifies in government prosecution McConnell will visit all parts of the country.
Joplin Missouri May 3 After a checkered career the Western association opens the 1911 season today as a strong and compact organization The association is now composed of Joplin and Springfield Missouri Independence and Coffeyville Kansas Sapulpa Tulsa and Muskogee Oklahoma and Fort Smith Arkansas It is possible that one or two of these towns may be dropped before the end of the season in favor of Parsons or Pittsburg Kansas
New York May 4 James J Jeffries, long the idol of boxing, sails with his wife and Jack Kipper for Germany from Los Angeles. He plans to stay three months, says he is done with boxing and will not fight German challengers, insisting he was not doped on July 4 last and denying rumors that he squealed or plotted.
A grand jury was summoned as McNamaras and McManigal prepare for arraignment on new indictments. District Attorney Fredericks, his assistant Ford and Judge Bordwell met in Los Angeles for a final conference, Ford arriving from Indianapolis as prosecutors finalize plans.

Three state senators Isaac Hoffman L R Andrews George Caton, two representatives George Nye Alo Lowery and Chairman Nye are named in indictments for soliciting and accepting bribes. Prosecution predicts more indictments to follow as the probe widens.
Hermiston residents push fifteen petitions for county roads to connect communities and aid settlers. The court plans to tour the west end to assess necessity. Initial opposition by Deputy District Attorney faded after arguments. Conflicts arise over a road near Echo with Higginbotham opposing Teel’s petition, alleging damage to his land. The court set a hearing for next Monday to hear both sides.
