A Baltimore Union Trust syndicate plans to acquire over 100000 acres of coal lands in southwest Virginia and to construct the Virginia and Southwestern and Ohio River and Charleston railroads. A new company with capital of 9 to 12.09 million dollars will form to build a route from Wise county to Lincoln, North Carolina, then south along the Seaboard Air Line to Southport where docks and coal facilities will be added.

St. Joseph March 31 Christian Nelson faced trial amid claims from 13 women that he was their husband. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison. He admitted three wives and denied others claims.
Six workhouse prisoners broke from the stockade in St Louis early today and fled by boat with aid from friends, rowing across the river and vanishing.
New York and Chicago wheat markets showed little activity with Easter holidays delaying open. New York opened 77 half and closed 77 . Chicago opened 71 half and closed 70 1/2. visible supply fell 1,383,000 to 49,565,000 versus last year. Prices cited include Sugar 134, Steel 42, St. Paul 165, Union Pacific 100, and San Francisco May wheat at 108 1/2. Chicago and New York spot readings noted.
Decatur Alabama March 31 a corps of engineers surveys a route for the Alabama Central Railroad from Decatur toward Jasper with plans to complete and begin operation by December 1 this year.
