Pendleton's council and street committee push paving with bitulithic Warren’s pavement after thorough investigations in Wall, Portland, and Tacoma. Dickson dispute dismissed. bids will be opened with fair options while preserving city finances and avoiding delays.
The city council of Walla Walla decided to advertise for bids on four paving types after an injunction limited bids to bitulithic. Barber Asphalt, Victor, and Warren Construction join Barber Asphalt’s bituminous macadam and Victor’s bitulithic to compete with the existing monopoly. The move aims to choose the most durable and least expensive option for paving about 16 blocks.
Judge O Sullivan directs grand jury to pursue al insurance affairs and require Jerome's evidence to be shown to the vice president of New York Life as the complaining witness. Defendants' names are not yet certain. Unlawful diversion of company funds alleged.

Riparia March 27 The contract for grading two miles of the Lewiston Riparia branch above Almota to Fleming and Cunick Spokane was let yesterday and work will start this week. Engineer H A Brandon in charge says 40 miles graded and awaiting rails. Crews are on 62 miles with 75 miles remaining, all above Almota, a big steam shovel moved to a new site for heavy cut work.

Pittsburg March 27 four arrests were made this afternoon in the Enterprise National Bank failure conspiracy case. Forest A. Nichols private secretary to W H Andrews George F E Ralston Charles Monxoner and Edward T McMillan former bank clerks were taken on conspiracy to defraud charges. Bail was fixed at 5000 which Nichols and Ralston posted.
Chicago March 27 Wheat closes at 77.25 cents a bushel. corn at 43.25. oats at 30.00. Market notes show ongoing prices from the world's leading wheat market with daily closing quotes.
Stockton California March 27 Hundreds of armed guards patrol the levees as the San Joaquin river rises. Thousands of acres near Ban ta flooded with 1000 hogs drowned. The Molen family danger prompts a rescue launch. Parts of Stockton flooded but the business district escapes. City Streets Superintendent Oscar Wright drives mad from flood stress.
J J Fitegerall of the O R N detective force reported from Umatilla that a second Greek, George Trouray and Pete Wiolins, is charged with breaking into a freight car and stealing lard and other items. They have not yet been indicted as the district attorney reviews the case. Harry Chaise, a gambler and prospector, committed suicide at Grants Pass by shooting himself after a long spree. He was 35, single, and had long residence in southwestern Oregon.
Indianapolis March 27 The joint scale committee voted for disagreement and set a 2 PM conference as 100000 miners brace for a strike when contracts expire at midnight Saturday The demand ranged from five and nine tenths to twelve and five tenths percent awaiting outcome of the conference and possible nationwide industrial conflict

Charles Grissen Deal known as Muriel Grey author of Willamette valley and former mayor of McMinnville and Oregon Fire Relief Association president died at his home in McMinnville Saturday night after a brief illness with pneumonia. A native of Switzerland, he recently visited Pendleton in support of the Oregon Fire Relief and had many friends in the city. He was a patriotic and capable citizen who led efforts for the improvement of his city and state.

William Connelly assistant superintendent of the O R & N departed from La Grande this morning for the bridge washout near Huntington. He was staying at the Hotel St George last night and received an early wire about the incident before heading to the scene.
Governor Gooding of Idaho has asked Samuel Gompers and John Mitchell to attend or send representatives to hear the confessions of Orchard and Adam Mitchell. The message to Gompers asks for his view on the invitation.
