Cattle Feeders Converge for La Grande Convention

Eastern Oregon cattle feeders will convene in La Grande on March 23 and 26 with leaders from Umatilla County attending. Prof E J Potter and livestock experts will discuss street fattening, silage, wintering calves and yearlings, lamb fattening, and pig fattening, plus a tour of Union County ranches.

Washington March 19 The Senate Foreign Relations Committee ordered a favorable report on Bainbridge Colby nomination as secretary of state. Several members said they would not be bound by the report to vote for confirmation. Objections to Colby were noted but not made public. there was never a formal charge filed against him.

The Brusha family has resided here for the past 12 years and plans an extended trip to Long Beach California for health reasons. New Standard Oil Manager Assigned in Trendleton

Vivian of the Standard Oil Co. office at Yakima is due soon to assume local management in Trendleton, replacing Lancoln who will be transferred to Walla Walla to head the agency there. Vivian is due to arrive any day.

Roy Jenkins Dies After Long Illness

Roy Jenkins age 32 died yesterday afternoon at 4 o clock after a long illness from tuberculosis. He was born at Pigot Rock and had lived here four years. Survived by parents Mr. and Mrs. L Jenkins and brothers Robert Jenkins of Washington and Ernest Worle Toth. Funeral set for tomorrow at 10 a.m. from the Folsom chapel. He was a member of the Christian church.

Portland report states the state convention of the American Legion will be held in America. The executive committee decided last night to approve readjustment of soldier salaries to 20 a month and to ask for concrete long term measures to support veterans. July 20 and 21 are noted as the convention dates.

Suit for $20000 Damages Against Railroad Begins Monday

Lyle Webb, a minor, sues the United States Railroad Administration for $20000 in a case reaching trial Monday in the circuit court. Webb, now about 20, lost his right hand tending buckets on a grader near Thorn Hollow in December 1918. Guardianship started the suit a year ago to recover alleged damages based on his potential earning capacity. Attorneys for the plaintiff are Raley, Raley & Stainer and H. J. Warner with James A. Fee. defense is led by A. C. Spencer, J. F. Reilly and C. A. Carter.

New African M E Church to Rise on Willow Street

Building operations start Monday for a new African Methodist Episcopal church on Willow Street between Tustin and Blurt Streets. It will serve about 100 of Pendleton’s colored population and is expected to be ready for dedication before June 1. Pastor L L Anderson and Rev E Gornall have been raising funds, with $2500 targeted.
