From Rio de Janeiro, March 12, strong war office reinforcements were ordered to Ceura to quell an anti-government revolt. Disorders, partly racial and political, escalated from strikes to widespread strikes and clashes. Martial law remains. several suspected plotters imprisoned as daily fights between blacks and whites and troops continue.
Petition signed by 300 voters requests a special election to approve a $40,000 bond for finishing the gravity water system. The measure, framed by the water commission, would fund the shift to concrete pipes and city improvements, with repayment from water revenues not taxes.
The selpmograph at St. Ignatius college observatory recorded an earthquake, described by Rev. Father Oden bach as likely originating in Japan, or possibly India or China, with the event noted on March 11.

Chehalis Washington March 12 Tom Hardin shot and killed William Hagerman. Mrs Artie Hagerman, wife of Hagerman, launched a murderous assault on his wife Rosey Hardin, leaving her for dead, then killed himself outside the Hagerman home on lower Pacific avenue. Rosey Hardin remains at death’s door in hospital.

Joel O Jamieson of Monmouth Tennessee dies at age 82 in Monmouth WL March 12. He is survived by five sons all United Presbyterian ministers who graduated from Monmouth College. One grandson is a minister and a granddaughter is a missionary in Egypt.

Senator William Kenyon of Iowa told a Fairhill Baptist church audience in Philadelphia that senators and representatives spend too much time at tangoing dinners receptions and theaters and not enough on their legislative work. He spoke March 12 urging Congress to devote more time to business and less social activity.
