Salem March 11 Judd Geer resigned from the state board of horticulture and H H Weatherapoon of Elgin was appointed by the board to fill the vacancy.
President Wilson weighs sending U S troops to patrol the entire Mexican border after Texas Governor Colquitt pledged to defend citizens there. Senators Sheppard and Garner say Texans back the plan, while reports from border points suggest conditions have improved. The ninth infantry at Fort Thomas Ky has been ordered toward the border, with no specific destination announced.
Charles H Moyer president of the Western Federation of Miners testified before a congressional committee about his deportation from the mining district last December. He said three men came to his Hancock hotel room that night and invited a larger Citizens committee. He noted fifteen or eighteen more men entered the room and asked if he would permit outside relief funds for survivors of the Christmas Eve disaster at Trallan hall. He said he told federation members they should not reject outside aid but families felt they should not accept relief from outsiders.
North Yakima, March 11. Mrs. H. B. Rigg, wife of a former judge, plunged into a mill pond to rescue a 10-year-old boy who fell from a log. Her dog, already in the water, attempted to save her and blocked her, and the boy drowned.

This marks the second appearance of Mrs Warner in divorce courts after eloping two years ago with a man named Herek whom she divorced about a year ago.
Texarkana Ark March 11 A dispute over a girl led to the death of Jesse Patton 22 at his home near Doddridge officers seek Dan Price 21 on a murder warrant awaiting arrest efforts.
The raid near Pekin by about 400 bandits led to the murder of Dr. T. Froyland, a Norwegian missionary, and the destruction and theft of American and British property. The attackers gained entry via a treacherous official, terrorizing locals as they looted the Asiatic Petroleum and British American Tobacco offices. Rey W. Ritner, prominent farmer and long-time Pendleton resident, formally declares as Republican candidate for representative from Umatilla County to succeed L. L. Mann. Ritner cites county ties, banking and agricultural work, and prior senate calendar clerk experience. Others rumored to run include Dr M Stern and Carl Engdahl, but no firm declarations yet.
Wallula March 11 Joseph Cole was acquitted of first degree murder in the killing of Robert Cunningham at a colored New Years Eve dance. The jury found the act not intentional after a two day trial. The state said Cole armed himself at the hall and Cunningham tried to bar him out. Cole testified the gun fired in a scuffle and fled, later found on a freight train.
The grand jury investigates gambling bootlegging and prostitution in Pendleton with city officials law and order leaders police, ministers and suspects subpoenaed. Several key witnesses have reportedly left the state to avoid examination while others are examined or awaiting testimony.
Hermiston Ore March 11 A persistent railroad rumor from officials says the O W R N may build a cutoff from Cold Springs station on the Columbia to Buttercreek mouth of Buttercreek connecting with the Coyote cutoff. The plan would run near the 500 foot contour, avoiding Hermiston and missing the town by a Melt tithe.
Hermiston Oregon March 11 Special Local farmers on the Umatilla project back a Portland Journal suggestion for a hard surface highway from the Columbia River to Hermiston along part of the Pacific Highway. A movement seeks regional consensus and asks county candidates to endorse the project.
