In Hong Kong a fire from a overturned kerosene lamp on a shower boat in the Canton river caused the loss of over a thousand lives as a flower boat fleet gathered for a celebration. A Chinese girl leaped into the river ablaze and the blaze spread to other boats. More than a thousand jumped into the water. about three hundred were rescued.
