Prominent Portland business leaders signed a telegram to United States Senator Jonathan Bourne Jr urging him to run on the Progressive ticket as a candidate for the Senate. They cite urgent state needs and say Bourne is best equipped to meet them. Names on the dispatch are not fully released.

Baltimore June 27 The Democratic convention voted to abrogate the unit rule as to state delegations where state law is not mandatory. This gave Woodrow Wilson eighteen votes from Ohio and could split other delegations. Missouri Chan Clark’s state cast 28 votes against the minority report while seven Missouri delegates voted aye. Nebraskan delegates backed the Wilson report amid cheers.
Former United States Senator Anthony Higgins of Delaware died yesterday at his brother's home in New York after a long illness. He was 71 years old and the first Republican elected to the U S Senate from Delaware.
