Greek Army Purchases From Hungarian Horse Society
Consul-General George Horton reports from Athens that the Greek army buys nearly all its horses in Hungary. A recent order for 716 horses was placed in Szabadka at 750 and 890 francs each, delivered in Pirneum. The Hungarian Society Thierversiche rungs-Gesellschaft of Budapest invites inspection of 1600 horses and is seen as a quality guarantor by many Hungarian breeders. Oregon takes on railroads over denatured alcohol rates
Oregon Railroad Commission and Interstate Commerce Commission press to lower denatured alcohol freight rates from Chicago and Missouri River points to Pacific coast terminals including Portland and Albina. Complaint argues current 86 centers per 109 pounds and $1.25 per 100 pounds rates are unreasonable, harming Oregon consumers and coast traffic. Denatured alcohol used for fuel and other purposes, not taxed like proof alcohol, and cheaper to manufacture, justifies a lower rate.
