Portland, Ore. June 19 W Tanner aged 23 was found dead in his downtown hotel room with a bullet wound and a severely beaten head. His wife was missing and their baggage gone after they checked in two weeks ago. The room had been ransacked.
Isaacs Abrahanson a 29 year old deaf mute committed suicide by taking strychnine after a confrontation with his parents Mr and Mrs Eslaes Abra hanson on Weston Mountain. The couple near Bingham Springs 12 miles southeast of Weston returned with help but could not prevent the poisoning. He signaled farewell before dying and had hinted earlier he would not be seen again. The motive remains a mystery to family and friends.
Chicago June 19 Samel Gompers president of the American Federation of Labor and John R Lennon treasurer are in conference preparing demands for organized labor to present to the Republican platform committees. Gompers will not discuss specific planks but notes labor’s vote in the fall will be shaped by the reception here and in Baltimore.
A fifteen year old boy, Billy Rupert, was caught mid burglary at U S Thacker grocery on West Webb Street. He entered through a ventilation hole while proprietor Thacker slept, was seized during the act, and later placed in juvenile custody. He is to appear before local authorities as county judge was absent.
A private message from Congressman Graham, head of the Hanford investigating committee, says the committee will leave Washington tomorrow for Seattle and arrive early next week. In Baltimore on June 19 Parker leads for temporary chairman with Murphy of Tammany Hall backing him. Supporters wore hatbands reading Win With Wilson. Unlike the Republican gathering, only about 40 delegates are involved.
London June 19 Chancellor of the exchequer Lloyd George entered Claxton hall for the Welsh Bazaar when a mob of militant suffragettes savagely assaulted him. His hat was knocked off and he was hustled from the hall. Several women were arrested.
Chicago on June 19 witnessed the temporary list of officials named by the sub committee on arrangements led by Indiana chairman Harry B New. The roster names Elihu Root as Chairman and LaFayette Gleason as Secretary with multiple assistant secretaries and staff including M. Blumenberg as official stenographer and Rev James Callashan as Chaplain among others.
