Forest Service Data Gathers Timber Area Across California
Foresters in Coast Wood and California national forests begin surveys this summer under the forest service plan to cruise 387000 acres of timber land. Work starts June 16 in the Sierra forest and July 1 in others, covering Corbin and Thomas creeks and Middle Fork of Hel River. Two man crews map and record timber reproduction, while estimating volume from a one strip one chain wide sample. Detailed topographic maps and stand estimates will aid stumpage sales and guide applicants to logging areas.
