Grass Cattle at High Water Mark in Oregon Sale
Oregon grass fed cows and steers hit record prices at Portland market with steers at 6.00 and cows at 6.00, shipments from eastern Oregon outpacing California. Heavy California arrivals and strong hog prices followed, with numerous local shippers from Willows Corvallis Roseburg and McMinnville. Official prices quoted reflect strong demand and larger cattle volumes, including multiple loads of cattle and sheep from several towns, and Alaska-bound cattle movement noted.

First Woman Deputy Sheriff Chosen in Montgomery City
Milas Neson Hunter, Montgomery City born and educated at Montgomery High School, has been appointed deputy sheriff of Montgomery County. A notable achievement as likely the first young graduate to hold the post in Missouri. She is the daughter of the late Thomas D. Hunter, former city marshal. She has not yet arrested anyone but can open and close court and maintain order just like a man. Separately, a city election recently elected a young woman as city collector, but she could not qualify due to not being a legal voter.
