Panama Monetary Plan Imitates U S Finances
The Panama joint commission met in Secretary Taft's office in Washington to discuss an emergency currency plan. Panama officials urged adopting a gold standard similar to the United States, with silver subsidiary coin at 22 to 1, and asked for a distinct reserve fund to keep silver on gold parity. They noted a $6 million deposit for posterity and $4 million from the U S to be used for public works, saying they would redraft the bill after consulting principals.
