At College Park Maryland June 12 two aviators Lieut Leighton W Hazlehurst of the Seventh Infantry ASA of Macon Georgia and A L Welch of Washington DC were killed when a new army aeroplane fell from about 200 feet shortly after takeoff. Welch flew the craft and Hazlehurst rode as passenger in the machine brought to the field by Orville Wright three weeks earlier. Both men had just completed several successful flights that day and Welch had been a Wright company employee for three years.
