THE NAVAJOS AS SHEEPMEN INDIAN FLOURISHING SHEEP INDUSTRY
The Central Navajos own about 200000 head of sheep and all are being dipped under government rules. Dipping nearly complete across Arizona. Disease scarce except near New Mexico borders due to native Navajo sheep characteristics. Sheep-raising is primitive with no fixed seasons for shear or lamb. Women run the industry, handling care, shearing, carding, spinning, weaving while bucks do little labor. Authorities must persuade chiefs to enforce regulations. Also notes death of M B Zimmer in Oregon and stabbing of Mrs Emanuel Bloom in Chicago with husband arrested.
