In Wattsburg a early morning blaze killed three men including George Burkhardt of Redmond Oregon and John Fry of Cottage Grove Oregon plus an unknown man. A couple escaping the second floor saved the husband from rheumatism while the wife aided him and they escaped with minor injuries. The fire destroyed the harness shop of G W Shuman and caused extensive losses. The cause remains unknown and the volunteer fire department aided in suppressing the blaze. Coroner ordered burial of the dead.
