Division of the public school fund debated by Catholic societies
The Catholic Sentinel at Portland reports on a proposal by the American Federation of Catholic Societies to divide public school funds with Catholic schools. Many Catholic and Protestant leaders fear state control over religion, while some Non Catholics support aiding Catholic education. Protestants point to government aid to denominational Indian schools and caution against church state entanglement in such funding.
