Islander Wreck Found in 400 Feet of Water Off Vancouver
Vancouver July 15 The Neptune Salvage Company of Tacoma located the wreck of the steamer Islander with a patented diving bell in over 400 feet of water. The ship, returning from Skagway after carrying 100 passengers and half a million in gold, struck an iceberg in August 1902 in Douglas Channel. Forty persons were drowned. The wreck is reported intact with a large hole in the bow and can be raised.

Albany July 15 The Banner sawmill near Lacan Linn County and about 85000 feet of dear lumber were ruined by a fire that broke out early morning. A proprietor lit a fire to heat the engine at 5 o clock and spotted a blaze near the wood dust. An explosion followed and the shed quickly ignited, engulfing the entire building in flames.
